Remembering Crockett

One year ago, I lost my best friend in a tragic accident. In case you're a newer reader, or you don't remember, the mommas came home from walking the dogs to find Crockett crushed by a ladder. They had been removing wallpaper from the entry hall and there had been a ladder propped against the wall. Crockett had been climbing up in the light well earlier in the day and they guess that he tried again when they were gone and that somehow he hit the ladder and it fell on him. It wuz awful. Grandma still blames herself (even though everyone tells her not to) and we all feel sick thinking about it.

I still miss him. We were two of a kind - bestest best friends who were always grooming each other and in a cat pile together. Angelique got along great with him too. It wuz so hard to lose our pal.

Which is why we all went crazy when Bowie wuz trying to climb in the light well. Of course, there wuz no ladder (and there will NEVER be another ladder propped against a wall in this house). But still - it hurt to much, especially close to such a sad anniversary.

Bowie's still frustrated he can't get up into the light well anymore, but he is having to find other mischief to cause. And since he's a crazy cat, that wuz quickly done for him. And there's always dogs to pick on.

We all still miss your Crockett. Your sweet perma-kitten face, your plush ticked fur, your crossed-eye, your silent purrs, your rare meow, and yes, that silly tongue you luved to show to the camera. Life is not the same without you.

  1. Oh, so sad to have Bowie do that just before this day of thinking about Crockett.
We here loved Crockett, too...I think everyone who knew him did. He was such a special kitty...

  6. Crockett was a special cat, and will always be loved. I know how hard it is not to feel the guilt, but sometimes, things just happen, no matter how hard we try to be careful.

  10. OMG....we never realized this was how Crockett passed....your Grandma must be so upset even now. This was a freaky accident. How horrible. When accidents get freaky....I must wonder...was it time for Crocket to leave us? I believe we are here for a reason and when we have accomplished what we need to....we move on. I am not religious but feel it deeply. Crockett is watching over us always.

    1. It would be nice if we could see some deep meaning in it, but we can't. It just hurts. We want him here - it wuz supposed to be Travis, Crockett, and Bowie together (the three heroes of the Alamo . . . )
