Bowie Update

So today has been a tuff day for Bowie. Last nite we thought he wuz doing good, the vet we had talked to seemed optimistic and said he'd be good to go tomorrow. But this morning wuz a different story. His blood pressure had skyrocketed overnight and he wuz blind (again). The vet said he wuz in severe distress and that we needed to consider putting him down. When da mommas (all 3 of them) got there, they visited wif Bowie. He wuz blind, but he wuz calm wif them and not in distress. They talked about taking him to a neurologist but given what the emergency vets had done, nobody seemed to think a neurologist wuz a good opshun - if he has a brain tumor or something, there is not much that can be done. And putting him through a battery of tests (MRIs and CT scans) would just stress him out. They ran tests on his blood and urine - all normal. He got some activated charcoal just in case he wuz poisoned - but we have no clue how since we've checked everything. The mommas just decided to take him home and see how he does. He has spent most of the day resting. His momma spoon-fed him a whole can of food (not all at once, MOL) and he's used the kitty box. He's still blind, but he is hearing and aware and responsive. Tonite, he seemed a lil better since he wuz walking steady and wanted in my room to see me.

We got to touch noses and do a lil headbutt. It looks like da kid are in even worse shape than me. Come on dude, get better. I need my lil shadow.

Angelique is our only healthy kitty right now.

We're giving Bowie a fighting chance. He's still on his blood pressure meds and we're making shure he gets food and liquid. And of course, lotsa luv. The vets are all stumped as to what happened - if it wuz a head trauma from a fall (Bowie does like to climb), something toxic, a clot, a stroke, a brain bleed - no one seems to have any ideas. We have another idea - if you remember, back in early April, we were all sick. Bowie wuz very sick. The mommas thought it could be da COVID since it seemed like some people in this house had it right before. And we're wondering if this could be one of those "long-haul" COVID symptoms - there's no way to know of course, but we know some people with COVID throw clots. But for right now, Bowie is just enjoying a lot of love.

Bowie (Day 5 of My Captivity)

Well, I am still in captivity, but today I are gonna write about Bowie. Ya see, he kinda stole da spotlight today (if da momma's worries set off a spotlight). It all started early this morning - Bowie's momma woke up and noticed him sleeping on a floor - kinda weird, since he duzn't really do that. Then she noticed how weak and wobbly he wuz - somefin wuz definitely wrong wif him. She tried feeding him, and he just fell over and wuzn't interested in food. So my momma agreed that he needed to go see da e-vet and off they went.

Bowie had to spend the day there. Da mommas were so worried, Bowie seemed so limp and he wuz knuckling under and one hundred purrcent not himself. but it seems like now he are gonna be ok. We don't know if he fell off of somewhere and hurt himself, possibly ate something bad (da mommas don't know WHAT since they checked over and over), if his electrolytes were off (the blood test said they were a lil), or just had some kinda weird episode. Maybe I shouldn't have told him bout the good drugs they give out there and the heated blankets . . .  It kinda seems like we just can't catch a break right now. But Bowie wuz doing much better tonite and da mommas are supposed to pick him up tomorrow.

Travis Had Surgery

Hello dahlings. Well, Bowie has been doing admirably well with the blog, well, for a mancat, but today I am taking charge. As I should, since divas should be in charge. Today Travis had an ultrasound of his bladder - apparently he had stones in there.

No Bowie, they weren't named Mick and Keith. Anyways, Travis had stones and the internist who looked at his ultrasound said Travis needed surgery - a cystotomy to remove them. They discussed the possibility of a perineal urethostomy, but his momma and the doctors agreed that we are going to hold off on that for now. So Travis will not be getting the Caitlyn Jenner special as Bowie called it yesterday (not that it matters to us - we are a hearts, not parts family). The surgery was successful - there were a lot of little stones in Travis' bladder. The catheter had displaced them, and then they slid right back to block his urethra when he was home. The stones are being sent off for a stone analysis. The good news is that Travis is supposed to get to come home tomorrow. He will have to be confined for two weeks to a  small dog x-pen (puppy plan pen). We can't wait to have our head mancat home. After all, I need more than one boy to boss around!

Travis - the world's most expensive cat. He may not always need emergency vet care, but when he does it cost thousands and thousands of dollars.

ReBlocked

Soo, uhh, me, Bowie, are havin to take over da blog again. Cuz my big brofur are at da emergency vet again. He had a really good day yesterday, but today wuz not a good day. Da mommas noticed he wuz havin some problems straining again. So da mommas took him to da vet. Just da regular vet dis time. She said she thought he wuz blocked and needed to go to da emergency vet. So off he went. Again.

They got him unblocked. But his bloodwork wuz not good - his glucose wuz high and his kidney values were off. And we don't know why he reblocked. Da mommas has been giving him da urinary food and even putting extra liquid in it to make shure he wuz drinking. Our regular vet seemed to think he needed an ultrasound - she are worried he might have bladder cancer or something that are causing this. And both da emergency vet and our regular vet menshuned a perineal urethrostomy. Which momma are callin da Caitlyn Jenner speshul, but don't worry, Travis are not gonna be changin his name to Caitlyn.

Tonite da mommas went to see Travis at da emergency vet - dey actually let em in which wuz nice. But dat makes momma worried too - she hopes they were just being nice and letting em in and not letting em becuz Travis are that sick.

But for tonite Travis are ok. He are resting at da emergency vet. We all just want him home and feeling better. I are keeping his bed warm for him though.

Blocked

Angelique here - Well, this is not the post that Travis' momma had planned to write today. She had planned on us showing off our new martini bandanas and making some kinda joke about how maybe we could wear them when the new James Bond movie came out in 2029. But, today 2020 kept 2020ing and Travis is staying at the emergency vet - he had a urinary blockage.

Yeah Angelique, it stinks. My big brofur had been hanging out in da litter box a lil bit more dan normal, but da mommas didn't really know he had a real problem until today when Travis' momma wuz exorcisin and Travis attempted some innappropirate peein in front of her. And he NEVER does that. He also seemed like he wuz in pain when he wuz picked up - he even hissed my momma and he never duz dat. They made him a vet appointment for tomorrow but after talking to the vet again when he seemed to be in pain, they decided to take him to da emergency vet since he'd hafta go there anyways if he wuz actually blocked.

And it's good they took him because he did have a blockage - the vet says his bladder wuz the size of a baseball. The good news is that he unblocked easily, his kidney values were still good, and the urine that came out wuz only streaked with blood. He had a combination of a mucus plug and struvite crystals. We only feed wet food, but Travis is going to have to be on a urinary diet and da mommas are gonna try giving him broth to make shure he gets enuf water. He's gotta be at the emergency vet for a couple days, but they did say da mommas caught it early. I just want my buddy back.

You Tee Eye

A You Tee Eye. Apparently I has one of em. I didn't really know what wuz wrong cept I kept felt like I had to pee and I couldn't. And it hurt. So I meowed at momma and led her right to my litterbox so she would know. But I don't think she quite got it at first, so I had to resort to some drastic measures. I did a lil bit of inappropriate peeing on a bag of old scratched up CDs from Angelique's momma's car (don't ask, MOL). And wuz when she saw da bloods.

Ya don't gotta make dat face Bowie, it wuzn't dat much blood.

And don't worry Angelique, your momma's old CDs are ok as they wuz before. MOL. It wuz really just a lil pinkish - enuf dat da momma's knew to take me to the emergency vet to make shure I wuzn't blocked. Maurice, Angelique's predecessor, got a bad blockage one time, so they knew they had to get me in today.

Well, da vetman said my bladder wuz empty, so I wuzn't blocked. He said I had a You Tee Eye and I got some Aunty Biotics and an Aunty Inflammatory.

Yeah, wif all those Aunties I'm expecting some good Catmas presents. Maybe I'll share wif Angelique and Bowie.

Or maybe not.

Anyways, I had to take two pills tonite and so far I'm still doing ok - da mommas are gonna keep a close eye on me though. I still managed to take a Cowboys selfie today.

And they even managed to win today!

I think all my momma's yelling woke up Angelique, MOL.

Amerjencee Vet

Hey y'all.  I didn't have a good day today - I had to go to da amerjencee vet dis afternoon.  My momma wuz gettin ready to go outside and go swimmin when she saw me sittin in my basket and wondered why I wuz stickin my tongue out at her.  Since dat are kinda Crockett's thing and she has never seen me doin it.  But den she realized dat it wuz not my tongue, it wuz my lip and it had swollen up real big.

Dis are not my usual glamour shot . . .

Ya can see it a lil bit in da top picture, which she took this morning.  But it wuzn't there at all yesterday, so off I went to da amerjencee vet wif her and Crockett's momma.  I wuzn't happy and I sang da Song of My People for a lil bit on da way.  But once I got there, I wuz my usooal sweet self and made da vet tech and da vet fall in luv.  Dey's all in luv wif me at my normal vet - my vet's offered to take me mulitple times and I even make da vet techs who aren't "cat people" want a kitty - if dey could get one like me.  I's not braggin, dey's ackshually said dat.  I think it has to do wif da no-bitin, no-scratchin and just bein sweet to em.

Anyways, I wuz my normal sweet self while dey examined me.  Da vet thought it wuz probably some kinda insect bite or bite wound (from tusselin wif Angie).  But of course she had to menshun worse possible scenarios - includin a mast cell two-more.  I got some injecshuns too - Aunty Histmean, Aunty Bye-Otics, and roids.  If I are not better, I are sposed to go to da regular vet on Monday.

And in case ya don't believe me dat da vet wuz in luv wif me - check out my report!

Patient, brave, handsome, sweet - yeah, I think dis one are smitten!

When I came home, I hid under da bed for a while, but now I are out and sleepin in da chair and my BFF Crockett are keepin me company.

I luvs dat silly razzberry dude.

And here are Angie's pic today - she ain't gonna get to tussel wif me for a while.  Guess Crockett'll have to keep her entertained.

In better news, we all got our bacon dis morning.  Here we is in our bacon receivin spots - I are still Top Cat™ round here!
